What is a dream design? As a designer I have often wondered about this. I have been in this glorious world of design for 5 years now and I am always learning and creating different pieces, different design every now and then. When I was starting out I had so many new ideas in mind but I could not put them in one form and I could never pin down what my dream design was. This was until I started working and now I think every time a new and exciting project comes along, I give my best within the time frame I have. I haven’t reached anywhere definite yet as I have thought, but I’m hopeful someday I might get my dream design and that would be it.
On the other hand, I also have a business house and I have been running it for the past 3 years. We work to fulfill the needs of my clients and to run the business smoothly, there is not much time I can devote to my personal projects. In saying that there are also a few shows and pageants happening in the city where designers can show their potential and create work without limitations. And, that is the most exciting part about such platforms, where commercial needs are not highlighted and there’s a freedom to experiment and play with creativity.
In a recent interview I was asked what was the most proud moment I had to share with my readers and my answer to that question was the moment when a gown that I had designed won the best evening wear award. A year ago when Asmi Shrestha, who bagged the Miss Nepal 2016 title walked in the aborigine-beaded gown with sequins and netted details radiant with glowing face was the moment I will remember forever. The mermaid silhouette that I had chosen for her tall and slender frame was perfect for a platform such as Miss Nepal pageant. For the design of the gown Asmi and I did a lot of brainstorming, and sketching to suit Asmi’s style and it was only after these processes I decided to go with the color aubergine as it was a unique palette. I also wanted the design to speak of the regal and elegant look with the richness of its colors and textures for the occasion.
When the gown was given the best eveningwear, I felt acknowledged for the work I had put in and it was really an amazing moment.
I was surprised when I couldn’t find a post about this experience on my blog since I share about so many things with my readers. Anyhow, my best friend shot some of these amazing pictures and it was her idea to do it with the award. I am lucky to have a close friend like her. I think it is so important to have a great support system in life. I believe in the power of positivity and when we support, motivate each other that is how we all grow and amazing things happen.
Magic happens when we bring out the best in each other.
